Hudson at a glance
Isaac Hudson arrived in 1878, and the settlement that took his name was established in 1882. For decades it was a fishing community. In 1950, W.L. Hendry and his sons dug inlets near Hudson Springs, creating the Port of Hudson that still anchors the area's waterfront.
Hudson had 12,944 residents in the 2020 census, with a median age of 59.7. Robert J. Strickland Memorial Park, built in the 1960s, is the main public beach.
What Hudson seawalls look like
Around the Port of Hudson and the spring-fed waterways, many waterfront lots are older and more varied than in the canal grid to the south and west. Walls range from early concrete to newer vinyl, often on the same street.

Free EstimateWhat Hudson owners ask for most
- Seawall Inspections
Mixed old and new walls make a baseline condition report useful before any repair.
- Seawall Cap Repair
Early concrete caps near the port are prone to cracking and spalling.
- Seawall Replacement
The oldest walls near the inlets are reaching the end of their life.
Spring-fed water still runs into salt
Water near Hudson Springs mixes spring flow with Gulf tides, but walls here still see salt and tidal swings. Don't assume a wall near fresh-looking water will last longer. Ask the contractor to check steel and caps the same way they would on a Gulf canal.
Permits for a Hudson seawall
Hudson has no city government, so permits for walls in Hudson go through Pasco County.
The office to call is Pasco County Building Construction Services at 8661 Citizens Drive, Suite 100, New Port Richey, FL 34654, (727) 847-8126.
State and federal rules can also apply, especially if work moves the wall waterward or affects seagrass or marsh. Restoring a wall within 18 inches waterward of where it stood is covered by an exception in Florida Statutes 403.813(1)(e); get your contractor to confirm the rest in writing.

Things to check first in Hudson
- Find out whether your wall is original or a later replacement
- Look at the cap for rust stains or loose concrete
- Note whether boat traffic near the port hits your wall with wakes
- Ask how far the contractor is from the job, since some travel from Pinellas
We'll pass your details to one licensed local contractor, not a call list.
Free EstimatePricing a Hudson seawall job
Every wall is different, so these are reference figures, not quotes. Older, mixed-material walls are harder to price than uniform canal runs, because the contractor may find different construction under each section. A detailed inspection first helps keep the estimate tight.
Reference figures, not quotes. Angi, seawall repair cost (2026 data): about $100–$250 per linear foot for repairs. LatestCost, Florida seawall replacement (2026): about $500–$1,200 per linear foot. HomeAdvisor, sea wall cost: average $25,000, typical $15,000–$60,000. Checked October 2026.
Hudson seawall questions
Is Hudson the same as Hudson Beach?
They overlap. Hudson is the larger census community, and Hudson Beach is the canal and beach area west of U.S. 19. Both are unincorporated Pasco.
Who permits seawall work in Hudson?
Pasco County Building Construction Services, since Hudson has no city government.
Do older Hudson walls need full replacement?
Not always. Many can be repaired with new anchors, joint sealing or a new cap. An inspection will show whether the panels are still sound.
