Port Richey at a glance
Aaron M. Richey arrived from St. Joseph, Missouri, in 1883 and settled near the mouth of the Pithlachascotee River. The Port Richey post office opened on July 9, 1884, and the town incorporated in 1925. Johnny Cash later owned a home on the river from 1979 to 2002.
It's a small city, with 3,052 residents in the 2020 census, but a large share of its land touches water. Its elevation is about three feet, so seawalls here do a lot of work holding back both tides and surge.
What Port Richey seawalls look like
Port Richey's canals branch off the river and the Gulf in a tight network of short streets. Many homes are modest older houses on narrow lots, so a seawall can be one of the most expensive parts of owning the property.

- Seawall Crack & Joint Repair
Low ground and tidal canals make soil loss through joints a common first problem.
- Seawall Height Raise
At three feet of elevation, extra wall height is a frequent question.
- Leaning Seawall & Tieback Repair
Older walls on narrow canals often lean once tiebacks corrode.
Port Richey has its own seawall checklist
The city publishes a seawall permit checklist, and its board has held a workshop on drafting seawall and bulkhead rules because current code does little to require maintenance. Ask your contractor to walk you through the city checklist so nothing is missing at submission.
Who permits seawall work in Port Richey
Inside city limits, Port Richey's own Building Services office reviews seawall permits using its published checklist.
Your parcel decides it: City of Port Richey Building Services ((727) 816-1900, option 2) or Pasco County Building Construction Services ((727) 847-8126). Search the address on the Pasco County Property Appraiser site before anyone files.
On top of the local permit, a job can need state or federal review depending on where the new work sits. Florida law (section 403.813(1)(e)) exempts restoring a wall within 18 inches waterward of its old line from certain state permits, and your contractor should confirm which reviews apply.

Free EstimateWhat seawall work costs in Port Richey
Use these published ranges as a starting point, not a quote. Short walls on narrow lots can keep the total low, but tight access may push work onto a barge, which adds cost. Raising height at the same time as a repair is usually cheaper than doing it later as a separate job.
Reference figures, not quotes. Angi, seawall repair cost (2026 data): about $100–$250 per linear foot for repairs. LatestCost, Florida seawall replacement (2026): about $500–$1,200 per linear foot. HomeAdvisor, sea wall cost: average $25,000, typical $15,000–$60,000. Checked October 2026.
