Hudson Beach at a glance
Hudson Beach is one of the largest artificial canal communities in the country, with more than 25 miles of inland waterways. The canals were blasted out in the late 1950s and through the 1960s, and environmental rules adopted since then mean nothing like it could be built today.
The community is made up of neighborhoods that run roughly north to south: Sea Pines, Driftwood Isles, Cape Cay, Sunset Estates, Waterway Shores, Port Hudson, Hudson Beach Estates, Sea Ranch and Signal Cove. Most lots have direct Gulf access with no fixed bridges.
What Hudson Beach seawalls look like
Most homes date from the 1960s onward, on canal lots with a dock and a wall across the back. Because the canals were blasted rather than dredged from sand, walls often sit on or against rock, and older walls may have been built in short sections by different owners.
Helene pushed water deep into the grid. FOX 13 reported a Sea Ranch Drive canal home with about 42 inches of water inside.

Free EstimateWhat Hudson Beach owners ask for most
- Seawall Crack & Joint Repair
Miles of aging panel joints mean leaking joints are the most common call.
- Leaning Seawall & Tieback Repair
Walls from the 1960s often have tie rods at the end of their life.
- Seawall Height Raise
After Helene's surge, owners are asking about cap extensions.
Coordinate with neighbors on the same canal
On a long canal, a contractor already set up with a barge can often do several lots for less than separate jobs. If your neighbors' walls are the same age as yours, ask about a shared visit and see if the price per foot drops.
Which office handles Hudson Beach permits
Hudson Beach is unincorporated, so seawall permits go through Pasco County.
The office to call is Pasco County Building Construction Services at 8661 Citizens Drive, Suite 100, New Port Richey, FL 34654, (727) 847-8126.
On top of the local permit, a job can need state or federal review depending on where the new work sits. Florida law (section 403.813(1)(e)) exempts restoring a wall within 18 inches waterward of its old line from certain state permits, and your contractor should confirm which reviews apply.

What to look at on a Hudson Beach wall
- Find out which Hudson Beach neighborhood and canal your lot is on
- Check where your wall meets your neighbors' for gaps or offsets
- Look for sinkholes or sunken pavers behind the cap
- Ask whether the contractor expects rock under or behind the wall
We'll pass your details to one licensed local contractor, not a call list.
Free EstimatePricing a Hudson Beach seawall job
No two walls price the same, so treat these as reference points. Straight canal runs with good barge access are often priced efficiently, especially when several lots are done together. Rock, tight side yards and failed tiebacks push prices up.
Reference figures, not quotes. Angi, seawall repair cost (2026 data): about $100–$250 per linear foot for repairs. LatestCost, Florida seawall replacement (2026): about $500–$1,200 per linear foot. HomeAdvisor, sea wall cost: average $25,000, typical $15,000–$60,000. Checked October 2026.
Hudson Beach seawall questions
Why does Hudson Beach have so many canals?
They were blasted out in the late 1950s and 1960s to create waterfront lots. Environmental rules adopted since then would prevent building canals like these today.
Who issues seawall permits in Hudson Beach?
Pasco County Building Construction Services. Hudson Beach has no city government.
My wall looks fine. Should I worry after Helene?
Look behind it. Soil loss through joints and settling behind the cap can show up weeks or months after a surge.
